LITTLE THINGS | 25.02.13

Hey again! Here's some more Instagram snapshots of what I've been up to in the past month. You can always follow along at @gininateacup too!

Breakfast burrito at Planet Cafe // High tea at Rochelle Adonis for Aidan's brother's fiance // Australia Day lunch // Pigeonhole dinner at The Print Hall (SUCH amazing food!)

My friend Alana on our way to see Weezer! // Bored and lonely at work // Chronicles of Burlesque ladies (it was an excellent show!) // My media pass for the Fringe Festival (which is all over now... sob!)

Some Rottnest photos: Massive pelican I spotted as we were leaving // View from our house // Spending Valentines Day on the beach // And not a Rottnest one, but some awesome wood-frame Polaroid film I used on Australia Day! The photos all came out yellow for some reason... but I still liked them.

Well, that's it from me for now! Hope your Februarys have all been excellent. I have so many good things happening in March - seeing Neil Young in concert, the Blues & Roots Festival, the aforementioned fiance's hen's night, and starting go-go dancing classes! Eep!

WHAT I WORE | Mellow Yellow

Hey again! This is another dress I picked up on my shopping trip this week. My lovely friend Phuong won a voucher for Miss Brown Vintage ages ago (at Remedy in fact!) and couldn't really find much to spend it on, so she gave the rest of the voucher to me! WHAT?! FREE VINTAGE?!?! I almost cried. Thanks Phuong!

So I picked up this dress and a skirt. I would have gone crazy but Aidan was sitting outside already and probably cursing my name. Who goes shopping with boys? Rookie mistake. Anyway, you should get yourself down to the Miss Brown pop-up store because the sales assistants are great and friendly and they seem to get new stuff in pretty regularly.

Vintage dress from Miss Brown Vintage | ASOS flats | Opal ring | Pigeonhole robin earrings

I haven't really been wearing much vintage lately and I forgot how much I love it. I think quite a bit of Miss Brown Vintage is reconstructed in some way but you can't deny this dress has a particularly vintage vibe. And that collar! I feel a bit like a 1950s schoolteacher (particularly fitting as I'm planning to go back to uni and get my teaching degree this year!). I think this is one of the only yellow items of clothing I own as well. The yellow and brown kind of reminds me of... waffles? Or something?

I have my second-last Fringe review tonight for Soires Fantastiques. I went to see the Circus Freak Show last night so I think this will be a nice, PG change! No more hammering nails up noses... hopefully. Tonight's show is my last Fringe review, I'm really bummed that it's almost all over!

WHAT I WORE | Another Brick In The Wall

Hello again! Sorry for the lack of outfit posts recently. I've been in one of those stages where I'm sick to death of everything in my wardrobe, so I haven't been very inspired. Even when I was on holidays and had a bunch of cute outfits planned, I quickly discarded those for anything without layers/zips/structure as soon as I got on the island and figured out it was too damn hot to worry about looking nice. But after doing a big wardrobe cull, I took some gift vouchers I received recently and bought a couple of new things. I meant to get some items that would actually be wardrobe staples, but of course I walked out with a brick-print skirt and a tee with Will Smith and Mariah on it. Of course.

I was a bit hesitant about buying this skirt because I'm as sick of digital prints as I'm sure you all are, but it's such a nice shape and super high waisted (hooray for waists!). It's that weird stretchy not-quite-lycra material so I'm not sure how well it will hold up, but for now it's pretty perfect. AND Myer have a 'buy two, get one free' deal on all the Dangerfield clothes. I bought this, the aforementioned t-shirt and a singlet dress with pictures of David Bowie on it. What? I don't know.

Sorry for the short and sweet outfit post, but I'm off to review the Chronicles of Burlesque tonight... I'm so excited! The Sugar Blue Burlesque ladies always put on an excellent show!

BOOK CLUB | February

Hey guys! I thought I'd start a new feature on what I've been reading lately. I don't know about you, but I'm always looking for good book recommendations. I was really lucky to get a Kindle from Aidan's mum and dad for Christmas and I love it! When I first saw them I was all NOTHING WILL REPLACE REAL BOOKS but I've been converted. I was also a snob about mp3 players when they came out but obviously I've changed my tune since then. Anyway, buying books for my Kindle has become a dangerous new hobby because you just click 'purchase' and it automatically MAGICALLY appears on your Kindle! WHAT?!

I ordered some especially for my trip to Rottnest, and here's what I thought... Click on the title of the book to go to the Amazon page!

JUST KIDS | Patti Smith
I saw Pip rave about this book on her blog, and even though I'm not super familiar with Patti Smith's music, I decided to give it a go. I love musician memoirs, and I thought that this one might be a bit more highbrow than, say, Dirt by Motley Crue. It was such a beautifully written book and I really liked that it dealt with her life before she was 'famous', and it gives a wonderful view of what life was like for artists in New York during the '60s and '70s. I knew she was an awesome musician but I didn't know just how hard she worked for it, and it made me appreciate her music a lot more. Read it! It's amazing.

I've read Jancee Dunn's memoir But Enough About Me so, so, so many times. I bought it when I was in year eleven or twelve in high school and as dorky as it may sound, I think it really influenced me to pursue a career as a journalist. I kind of have that creepy feel that we would be friends in real life given the opportunity. She seems rad. Anyway, this book is more of a collection of essays rather than a full on life story, so it's really easy to get into. Her family sounds just as hilarious as she is and the stories made me snort with laughter a few times. SNORT. What more do you need?

THE PSYCHOPATH TEST | Jon Ronson
I don't really read a lot of non-fiction, but when I saw this in my Amazon recommendations I thought I'd give it a crack. It's one of those books where you just want to scream in frustration because it's so amazing and you're the only one experiencing it and you want everyone to know how great it is. I wasn't expecting it to hook me in as much as it did - who knew psychopaths were so interesting? Apart from EVERYBODY because I'm sure we all have a bit of a weird fascination with them. Although between this and my obsession with Criminal Minds, I'm a little suspicious that everyone I know could be a secret psychopath. Maybe. You never know... O____O

I haven't read any YA fiction in a while. I know people rave about how you can read it at any age and it's still great, but it usually just ain't my thing. I did like this book - it's written in a really interesting way and the main character Charlie is very sweet and likeable - but to be honest, I think I've seen "And in that moment, I swear we were infinite" and "We accept the love we think we deserve" splashed all over tumblr in the form of tattoos, those stupid 'text over a picture of space' photos, etc for me not to roll my eyes a little when they came up in the book. I'd be interested to see how much the movie differs from the book. I read it in a day so it's a nice easy book to get through on holidays.

So! Thanks for letting me ramble on about books and stuff. If you have any recommendations on what I should read next let me know! I've pre-ordered the new Jodi Picoult one which looks really good. AHH BOOKS!

DO THE BARTMAN

I saw this outfit post on Spin Dizzy Fall this morning, and I immediately went on the hunt for a Bart sweater of my very own. I found these on She Inside and already ordered the first one (you get a 15% discount on your first purchase when you sign up, so it ended up being very cheap indeed!). I can't wait for it to arrive! Just another one to add to my novelty sweater collection...

MY FAVOURITE THINGS | January

Hello again! I thought I'd share some snaps of a few of my favourite things recently. It IS a little bit late for a January post, but on top of doing my Fringe reviews I've been sick recently! Ugh! Anyway. Here we go...

1 // K is for Kani accessories. I bought the headband to possibly wear to an upcoming wedding, but then I couldn't resist the adorable pins too! Really fast shipping and beautifully packaged, I would definitely recommend!
2 // YSL Touche Eclat. My sister brought this back from the UK for me - I still can't get over how much cheaper makeup is over there! - and I've used it every day. It's filling in the space of that elusive makeup product that makes you look bright eyed and glowing even if you're running on four hours sleep (I've done the research).
3 // My backyard. Aidan has grand plans to build a mini skate ramp in our backyard and while it's still in the very early stages, I'm blown away by how many offers of help we've had to get the garden cleaned up. I probably won't be AS thankful when I hear people skating at all hours of the day, but right now I'm very proud of all the progress.
4 // This book, because it means not only are there two weddings I get to go to but Aidan will be best man at both of them! How exciting!
5 // This opal ring. I know I put up a photo of it not long ago but I love it. I've worn it almost every day. It has the most beautiful markings on it and the pastel opal is so lovely and sparkly.
6 // Fringe! I've been to see three shows so far (and the reviews all made it up onto the West Australian website, yay!) and they've all been great. You can see my reviews for Kinetica, The Tea(se) Party and Morgan & West: Time Travelling Magicians by clicking on the links!
7 // This owl. I bought him from work a while ago - whenever we get them in they usually sell out super fast - so I snapped this one up as soon as he came in! It's by Made 590 if you'd like your own owly friend!
8 // T2 goodies! These were a Christmas present from a lovely friend of mine. I have to admit I'd never been a fan of flavoured teas - they all just tasted like hot water to me! But these ones are actually really delicious. My favourite is a strawberries and cream flavoured green tea.

Hope you like this new feature (well, hopefully I can make it a monthly feature!). Posting might continue to be a bit light over the next few days as I have more Fringe shows and then I'm off to Rottnest for a few days! Thanks for sticking around :)

WHAT I WORE | Kinetica

Hello! Today was the day of my first official Fringe Festival review, and I was lucky enough to see Kinetica. It was a bit weird and wonderful, with a bunch of amazing aerial acrobatics that made my jaw drop - as soon as the review goes up I'll let you know!

Perth's heading for another heatwave so I needed to wear something light and airy - the Fringe venues all look spectacular, but man they get really warm really fast! I ended up in this vintage dress I got a couple of years ago. It's actually from Sportsgirl's vintage range (I'm not totally sure if they still do that but I bought a couple of dresses when they were on super super sale) so I imagine it's been redesigned, hemmed and the like, but I love the bright orange colour and the big floaty sleeves. It's a pretty perfect summer frock, to be honest.

Sorry about the extreme flash in these photos, it was dark and I completely blanked on how to use my camera in low light! The shame.

Vintage dress | Betts sandals | Opal ring from Aidan | Pigeonhole dinosaur ring & bag | Sportsgirl tiger bracelet | Skull bracelets from Love Couture | Peace bracelet from a PFF showbag | Media pass because I'm a dork

After the show, Aidan and I stopped off to get some delicious treats from Superstar Waffles. I've been wanting to visit for ages but it doesn't open until one. I want waffles way before 1pm! WHY YOU GOTTA PLAY ME LIKE THAT?! Anyway, Aidan had strawberry waffles and I had peanut butter mousse, which comes with whipped peanut butter, crushed peanuts, and Oreo crumbs. AMAZING. I
think a return visit is in order.

I've got another show to review tomorrow so stay tuned for another outfit post! I'm hoping to get some photos of the famous Speigeltent - I've seen it when I've gone to the Fringe bar and it's absolutely beautiful!
