WHAT I WORE | Write Away

Hello again! Today I had a meeting about the big news I mentioned earlier... I probably built it up too much but I found out last week I'm going to be a reviewer at the Fringe Festival! There's a group of fifteen and we'll all be covering the shows. I have some pretty excellent ones coming up, so I'll be sure to link them up here when they're up on the Buzzcuts blog! I'm so excited for the opportunity and, of course, to see some amazing shows! I have quite a few burlesque/cabaret/magic (!!) shows to review and I'm over the moon!

Anyway, this is what I wore to the meeting we had with some editors from The West, who are partnering with Buzzcuts for this year's festival. I wasn't sure what to wear so I went with this new dress and shoes from Modcloth, and I figured I couldn't go wrong with my Steve Buscemi badge.

I LOVE these shoes. I have to admit they're a tiny bit snug, but I'm hoping they'll stretch! I had them on my wish list for ages, and they FINALLY went on sale. I thought they were very appropriate for visiting a newspaper office.

I took these on the Sony Bloggie camera I got for Aidan a couple of Christmases ago. My SLR battery charger has decided to disappear on me (GRRRR), so I'm trying out at a small camera again! It is a lot easier not having to spend ten minutes adjusting the lighting, but I do miss using my Canon. Here's hoping the charger is just under the piles of clothes in my room... If you know of anywhere to get cheap replacement chargers please hit me up! I've only found them for around $80 so far... AIEEEEE!

WHAT I WORE | Tapestry

Hello again! Here's my first outfit post for the year! It only took me 20 days... :| I wore this out to a goodbye picnic for one of my friends moving to Melbourne. It seems like so many people are moving away this year! Stop that!

I got this dress from ASOS (and with one of those pre-paid EFTPOS cards that I got as a Christmas present, so techincally it was FREE! Even better!). The last couple of things I've gotten from there haven't looked that great, but I was really happy with this dress. It's such a beautiful print and I can never go past a ridiculously poufy skirt.

ASOS dress, earrings & shoes | Michael Hill opal ring, from Aidan | Miss Shop at Myer belt | Hair newly trimmed & coloured by Teagan at Peggy Sues!

I love that I can wear both pink and red accessories with this dress and not look like a Valentine's Day card. I bought these velvet flats a while ago and I love them! I hardly ever wear heels so I'm trying not to buy too many this year because I know I'll never wear them, and wearing the same flats all through the week is a little boring (and smelly). Aidan got me the ring for Christmas and I've been wearing it almost every day. I love pastel opals and this ring has such a pretty vintage-style design on it.

And you may have noticed that my hair got a bit of a trim! I wanted an Anna Karina type of hairdo that is really ridiculously easy to maintain. I love the darker colour, as well. It feels a bit Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction (without the badass husband or the coke habit, of course). Gah! Good hairdressers are the best find ever.

LITTLE THINGS | 14.01.13

Hello again! I've had an insanely busy couple of weeks with engagements, 21sts and baby showers, so here's a little glimpse of what I've been up to. I have more exciting news that I am waiting to be all finalised before I say anything (NOTHING to do with the aforementioned engagements, baby showers and obviously the ship has long sailed on it being a 21st), it's shaping up to be a pretty excellent year! And here's some photos from the past couple of months that I wanted to share with you. As always you can follow along on Instagram at @gininateacup :)

Beautiful opal ring, which was a Christmas present from Aidan (thank you!) // My new favourite ever ornament, a present from my sister // My mum found the exact Nutcracker storybook set that I had when I was little! // Pavlova on Christmas Day

New spiky shoes from the Wittner sale // My Steve Buscemi badge from Napkin Items // Me and my furry jackalope friend (and in a new Modcloth dress from their lucky dip sale!) // Los Pollos Hermanos!

Puppy times! My friend's beautiful puppy Layla // Some tasteless banner making (ahem) // Rad posters in the Hula Bula Bar bathrooms

Delicious (and picturesque!) sushi at Takas // Gingerbread house (demolished very soon after this photo was taken) // Aidan & Abby enjoying a NYE swim // My favourite Rolling Stone cover in a long long time (and a really good issue to boot!)

REVIEW | Vision Direct

A while ago Vision Direct contacted me about reviewing a pair of sunglasses. I narrowed it down to three styles and got sent the Rayban Clubmasters. I was a bit worried that they wouldn't really fit in with my style - I mean, they're called the Clubmasters, after all - but I shouldn't have been. They're fantastic! They'e a little bit more unusual than the Wayfarer style I would normally go for.

I was really quite impressed with the service from Vision Direct. When my order was delayed I had the opportunity to pick a different pair of sunglasses that were in stock, or to get a refund, or to just wait it out. Since I wasn't actually paying for the sunglasses I felt it would be a bit cheeky to choose a different pair, and I waited it out. It took quite a bit longer than I expected but I was updated on the process every step of the way. I would say to order well in advance if you wanted a pair for a particular occasion, just to be on the safe side (although I guess that's true of all online shopping).

This is my first pair of designer sunglasses and I'm terrified of scratching/losing/sitting on them, but I think my Clubmasters and I will be very happy together. Thanks Vision Direct! I'll definitely be checking them out when I decide to expand my rather weak sunglasses collection... I've got my eye on the incredible Miu Miu range and these Prada glasses.

Happy New Year!

Happy 2013, everybody! I thought I'd share some Instax photos I took last night. Aidan and I left our NYE plans to the last minute, found out our friends were going to the Bakery, and spent the 31st of December frantically scrambling for tickets. I had almost given up hope - I saw people putting up desperate pleas and promising to pay double the ticket price, so I thought I had no chance - but my wonderful friend Alana saved the day and found us a couple of spare tickets! SCORE. It was such a fun night.

I was going to wear this amazing beaded shift dress but a) it was a tiny bit tight in the arms and butt - not good for dancing - and b) IT WAS 40 FREAKING DEGREES AND THAT DRESS IS HEAVY. So I wore another vintage one I got ages ago and went for a bit of 'Samantha in Bewitched' kind of vibe. I was also hoping for an effect kind of like this.

I hope your New Year's Eve was rocking as well! Here's to an absolutely fantastic 2013!
