Tara is 19!

This is what I am wearing to celebrate my 19th:

Cardigan: Red Cherry//Ramones T-Shirt: Myer//Skirt: Cotton On//Tights: ?//Shoes: Zu//Beret: Equip
...and present time!

Cupcakes from Boy's sister and her boyfriend...
...and Cirque de Soleil tickets from Boy! Hooray!
Hopefully I will get some good photos of my (much planned out) burlesque outfit tonight, if so I will post them tomorrow!
x
p.s and also thanks to my sister, who has been taking my photos all weekend and who got me the first season of Popular (teehee - does anyone else remember that show? We were obsessed with it when it was on, when I was about 14 or 15) on DVD! Aah nostalgia...

What I Wore 30.8.08

This is what I wore to my birthday dinner with my family and Boy's family! It was at a restuarant called Chester's, and was extremely delicious. I had crab and avacado salsa for entree and "Breast of Chicken" (why couldn't they just call it chicken breast?) for main course. And by the time I ate all that I couldn't fit in dessert :<. Anyway it was lovely and I was very spoiled by presents from Boy's family (even though I shouldn't have opened them a day in advance, my birthday is actually today!).

Dress: Leona Edminston//Belt: Valleygirl//Tights: Equip//Shoes: Diana Ferrari//Earrings: Diva//Batclutch: Genki

The clutch is one of my favourite things I got in Melbourne, although not many people realise it is actually a purse and quietly wonder why I am taking a bat toy everywhere.

(I just realised that my calendar is a month behind. How embarrassing.)

What I Wore 29.8.08

Cardigan: Red Cherry//Singlet: Miss Shop//Skirt: Op shop//Tights: ?//Shoes: Diana Ferrari
This is what I wore to drop an assignment at uni and then do some shopping. I didn't find much, but I bought two necklaces on sale for Diva (which will undoubtedly make an appearance soon) and this really cool scarf by Chip Chop for Sportsgirl. It's a bit hard to tell from photos, and even in real life when I'm wearing it like I am now, but it has all the different types of art written onto it. I tried to take a picture:

Well you can kind of tell. It's a pretty cool range (the Sportsgirl/Chip Chop one), lots of geeky art references and a singlet that says "Go Van Gogh!" in an American sports team-type font which I am planning to get tomorrow/ask for on my birthday so people are less inclined to say no. Hehe!

I hope you all have a good Friday night, it is Anime Night for me & Boy so today we will be watching Akira (I think!).

All That Jazz

I know that some of you reading this share my immense love for the 1920's look, so when I found these photos on the LJ community foto_decadent, I thought I would share them! It's from Vogue Korea August 2008, and titled 'All That Jazz'. A bit photo-heavy, but I couldn't resist posting such a beautiful shoot! Enjoy...
I love these photos, although that's probably because I loved Chicago so much! My two favourites are the last one and the one of the Roxy character sitting on top of the piano. I think that mainly I am so excited by 1920's at the moment because I'm going to Sugar Blue Burlesque on my birthday (oh, did I mention that?)! Only three more days to go!

Oscar Wilde

I'm not sure how many dapper gents read this blog, so I won't comment too much on Oscar Wilde's very elegant style, but either way the great thing about him - apart from his fantastic style and decadent lifestyle - was his mind. And, as the quote in my header says, "The only real elegance is in the mind," so educate yourselves with some of my favourite quotes from my favourite author.

♥ "All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does. That's his."
♥ "Always forgive your enemies - nothing annoys them so much."
♥ "Bigamy is having one wife too many. Monogamy is the same."
♥ "Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months."

♥ "How marriage ruins a man! It is as demoralizing as cigarettes, and far more expensive."
♥ "I suppose society is wonderfully delightful. To be in it is merely a bore. But to be out of it is simply a tragedy."
♥ "The typewriting machine, when played with expression, is no more annoying than the piano when played by a sister or near relation."
♥ "It is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious."

...and my very favourite:

"To love onself is the beginning of a lifelong romance."

My Birthday Wishlist!

First of all sorry for such sporadic posting, I have been really, really sick with gastro (for the second time in a month!) and so have had to come back to my parent's house in Bunbury to get better. Now, if you have heard of Bunbury (and you probably haven't) you will know that it isn't exactly the fashion capital of the world, so I have been a tad uninspired to do "What I Wore" and even "New Things" posts because of, well, lack of content. And it is a bit frustrating falling asleep every couple of hours!
But enough of the doom and gloom! It is my birthday on Sunday and as well as attending this, which I am SO EXCITED about (hopefully I will be well enough to go :< !), here are more things pleasing my eyeballs:

Clockwise, L-R: Wheels & Doll Baby "Cake Ruffle dress, HP Lovecraft for Vans Roy Lichtenstein-inspired vans, Femme Sud datebook purse, Go Jane ugly-cool (my word, not theirs!) shoes, a job at Rolling Stone, A Clockwork Orange action doll (!!!), MGMT & Southbound tickets, Paraphernalia typewriter necklace, Agent Provocateur Cheryl underwear and an Amelie Japanese movie score poster.
A bit late, but hey! And if any Perth people would like to come along to the Sugar Blue Burlesque show on August 31st, just click on where I've linked it above to find the information. Amanda is also attending!

Garden City loves me!

Today I met up with one of my friends at one of the local shopping centres Garden City... I used to work there but haven't been back since because I'm not really a fan of big shopping 'malls'. But today I am a bit more lenient towards them because of my lovely new purchases!
Gold sequin scarf: Sportsgirl ($4.95 down from $39.99! I have wanted this scarf for ages but obviously couldn't justify 40 bucks for a sequins on material)
Shoes: Zu ($60... Looking at them I actually think Amanda has these in navy? Well anyway!)
Hope your day was good, mine was quite pleasant what with catching up with friends and finishing assignments and GETTING NEW SHOES!

What I Wore 22.8.08

If you've been reading this blog for a while, you might remember me saying that I was looking for a morning jacket that was like Cassie's from Skins. Well, I found one while I was in Melbourne! Today's the first day I've worn it here and I rather like it.

Jacket: General Pants Co. (it was another brand but the label got ripped out!)//Singlet: Cotton On//Jeans: Cotton On//Watch: Singapore//Necklace: Paraphernalia//Headband: Diva

I was a bit worried that with the heart necklace it looked a bit My Chemical Romance (i.e DEFINITELY not to look I was going for) but hopefully not. I love this jacket, especially the little fake handkercheif in the pocket! So cute! I wish I could remember what brand it is, but it's available at General Pants anyway. You can see the back of the jacket (the coolest part!) a little better in this photo:

Stay tuned for part two of "What I Wore" later today! Ooh suspense!

Style Icons: Clara Bow

Called the original "it girl", silent film star Clara Bow embodies everything I love about the 1920's. She is adorable, quirky, and extremely well dressed. If there was ever an argument for red lipstick and bobs, well, I think this would be it!

I love her look in this picture - her hair, her impeccable makeup, and just the decadence of what she is wearing. People don't have enough masquerade balls anymore, in my opinion. This dress is amazing.

They're a bit hard to see in this picture, but the boots she is wearing in this picture are absolutely divine. I kind of feel like this outfit wouldn't actually be out of place wearing it today? I do have a cloche hat as a matter of fact, but it never feels like the right time to wear it.

First of all my brain almost exploded because of all the cuteness in this picture. Again, amazing shoes and, oh, the whole outfit is just gorgeous. I love how the hat and the shoes match, and I am seriously coveting the feather headdress on the doll on the right.

It's a bit hard to tell in the photo, but the expression on her face is something like "Yeah, it's gold, it's shiny, so what? I can PULL IT OFF. I am SO WEARING THIS DRESS." Or possibly something more eloquent.

SO. MANY. BOWS. = love

I am kind of leaning towards getting my hair cut into a 1920's-esque bob - it's in that kind of not-quite-long-not-quite-short stage that I think looks really awkward and I just try to wear it back. Anyway, I think Clara Bow is so gorgeous and really epitomises what an it girl should be - different, a little quirky, and very cute. I think that some so-called it girls today could stand to be a little more like a 1920's film star (i.e silent), non?

This post is making me hungry.

I actually bought this a couple of weeks ago, but couldn't resist putting some pictures up! I mean come on, it's an actual hamburger phone!
Wearing my school leavers jumper! They aren't very flattering, they look like baseball jumpers and mine has tea stains all over it. My old high school is notoriously bad at choosing good leavers jumpers.
Om nom nom
This was $24 (!!) from Dangerfield, they also have a pair of lips and a French fry phone! In case you were wondering, it does actually work as a real phone, it is not just there for novelty and implementing cheeseburger cravings.

What I Wore 21.8.08

Sorry it has been a bit quiet around here for the past couple of days, but seemingly endless assignments are cropping up (how inconvenient!) and so I am either doing those or falling asleep in lieu of doing them. Anyway! This is what I wore today, to go to a journalism tutorial and pass notes with Amanda. After doing two interviews for a news article I am writing I decided on a JOURNALISM IZ SERIOUS BIZNESS outfit.

Top: Valleygirl//Dress: Cotton On//Belt: Valleygirl//Tights: Target//Shoes: Big W (!!)//Watch: Singapore//And my uni books & Disney princess pen (a present from my sister!)

I actually ended up wearing different shoes to uni, I bought these boots about a year ago and the little nub heel has almost completely worn off! I wore them to the bus stop and slipped on the uneven heels about five times! So when I realised I had forgotten something I was secretely quite relieved to have an excuse to go and change shoes.

I have a week off uni next week so expect the usual BLOGBLOGBLOGBLOG attack! I will need something to amuse myself whilst waiting for my birthday next Sunday!

x

(In case you are wondering, the books are for anthropology and sociology! And please excuse my messy kitchen table in the second picture, I could either clean the table or crop the picture but I am lazy today. EDIT - I have discovered how to edit pictures on my computer, hooray!)

I Want: Ruby Smallbone

Ruby Smallbone is an Australian designer who debuted her collection in 2005. I like it because her pieces are cute and kind of quirky. Ruby herself seems very unique as well - she used a pseudo-thriller short film to present her SS07/08 collection named "The Performer", of which she says "I like to play with an element of surprise and unpredictability in my designs, whether it be an unusual colour marriage or a small construction detail - something that makes the user feel inimitable and luxurious," and apparently her influences include kitsch 60's horror films (the best kind!), 70's TV glamour, and 80's rock and roll.

Here are my favourite pieces from that collection (as seen on rubysmallbone.com.au):

I am particularly crazy about the skirt in the third picture, and the dress in the second. It's such a beautiful collection (although I'm not that into the model's faux-greasy hair...). I especially like it when an Australian designer puts out such a fabulous collection, I don't know why, maybe all the Olympics patrioticism is affecting my brain.

I like some of the pieces in her older collections even more...

The first two are from the Winter 08 collection, the second two from Winter 07. I LOVE all these looks and would wear them in a second (although, I don't really go out anywhere special enough to wear these, and they are a tad too fancy for uni!).
