What I Wore 30.07.10

Hello! This is another of the vintage dresses I bought the other day. Sadly, all I have done in it is watch The Office (the UK version, my sister has never seen it), eat leftover pizza, have a nap (what? It's my uni break, I am really bored) and clean my room. I have mentioned before that I am really, really messy, so cleaning my room has been a two day affair and I am still nowhere near having it look presentable. I would have taken pictures to prove it but... I was too embarrassed. It was that bad! I am looking forward to having it all nice and organised and finally being able to decorate it.

Anyway! Enough about room-cleaning (never thought I would have to say THAT), on to the outfit...

Vintage 70's dress
Red Berry cardigan
Diva teacup & spoon necklace
Black tights
Mimi Loves Jimi brogues
Oliver Peoples glasses

I am happy because tonight I get to see someone I like very, very much. Hee!

Have a lovely weekend!

What I Wore 29.07.10

Hello hello! After having an interview this morning (keep your fingers crossed for me, it's between me and two other girls!), I met up with one of the girls I used to work with, who got a job today! Hooray! This is one of three vintage dresses I bought in Fremantle yesterday. Oops. Um, how does unemployment go again?

Needless to say, I am very much enjoying not having to wear black for 75% of my outfits. I am not sure how well-received the stockings are - whenever I wear them out I am guaranteed to get asked for I.D. So I probably DID wear this exact outfit when I was four WHAT OF IT AND HAND ME MY GIN AND TONIC PLEASE.

Dress - vintage 60's
Red tights from David Jones
Supre cardigan (from about five years ago)
Lipstik flats
OSIER owl ring

I only tried the dress on for fun, but I loved the shape of it so much (and it was on sale) so it ended up coming home with me (to the detriment of my bank account). It's a little bit big for me around the waist so I think next time I'll either wear a belt or LEARN TO SEW and take it in. But, the fabric is in such perfect condition and it's so cute! It looks kind of like chess pieces.

More vintage goodness to come tomorrow!

Hopelessly Devoted to Hopeless Lingerie

I have a weakness for beautiful underthings, even if I am the only one who knows that they are there! So I am especially glad I found this adorable lingerie line. I found Hopeless Lingerie through their Twitter page and I am thoroughly enchanted by it. It looks so delicate and beautiful - almost too nice to keep under your clothes (but, well, please do so while out in public).  Here are my favourite pieces from their collection, which was inspired by the movie Jaws! How awesome is that? I can't say that seeing sharks tear off chunks of human flesh has ever inspired me to make something so pretty.

Chrissie Navy Blue Silk Halter Top with Flounce

I don't know if flounce is a technical term (I mean, obviously I assume it is if it's in the description) but it makes me utterly delighted that it is. "What are you wearing?" "Oh, just my shirt with FLOUNCE." I really love navy blue but I can never find any pieces of it! This is beautiful. Sadly I cannot ever wear it, as it's not recommended to go larger than a C-cup, but maybe some more smaller-bosomed ladies will enjoy it!

Meadow Georgette & Silk Camisole

Another thing I really like about all these pieces is that they still look quite sweet and innocent, for lingerie. They look almost (almost!) like you could confidently wear them out. This style usually looks quite odd on me but it doesn't stop me appreciating what a gorgeous piece it is!

Hooper High Waisted Red Organic & Soy knickers with Georgette Detail and Meadow Navy Blue and White Organic Soy & Cotton Jersey Knickers

I LOVE the look of high waisted knickers, which are probably affectionately nicknamed by most people as "granny panties". Ahem. They should REALISE that it is actually SUPER RETRO AND CUTE to have high waisted underwear. A lot more sexy than shapwear, as well, and perfect for days when you can't stand the sight of your stomach (hopefully I am not the only one who has these days).

Ellen Navy and Red Silk Garter Belt

I am currently having a love affair with garter belts. In winter, I am pretty much constantly in black stockings and it makes me feel a bit more cute having them attached to a garter belt (plus, it is like having a cool little secret! Well, not any more really). ANYWAY, I only have some tacky and cheap looking ones but this one is absolutely divine. I'm not sure how it is under clothes, since it would be kind of like wearing another little skirt underneath. But no matter! It is gorgeous. Plus, NAVY BLUE NAVY BLUE NAVY BLUE.

So, what are you waiting for? Go forth and shop! Bonus: all the items are handmade in Australia. Hooray!

Sunday Songs: Papa Lloyd Edition

So as you may have noticed, I have become a bit stuck on the Sunday Songs of late. I thought while I was in Bunbury, I would enlist the help of my dad, because he has quite excellent taste and, so, here are his choices!

David Bowie - Fashion

Basement Birds - Waiting For You (though it should be noted that this was not Papa Lloyd's first choice, he chose "Holly" but alas, there was no Youtube video for it)

Black Lace - Superman (the Psychoville edition - yes, that was part of the request)

Led Zeppelin - When The Levee Breaks

Kate Miller-Heidke - Last Day On Earth

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb

The Rolling Stones - Respectable

And so ends the first guest edition of Sunday Songs!

What I Wore 23.07.10

This is what I wore to go and get my hair cut (as you saw yesterday) and then hang around at home, packing for my trip to Bunbury (which is occuring AS YOU READ THIS! TECHNOLOGY!). All is still quiet on the job front, I am actually looking forward to going back to uni and having something to do again! I'm going to look into getting some work experience this semester, or at least by the end of the year. If you've had any experience please let me know how it all works!

Dress from Modcloth (one of the first things I ever bought online! See!)
Black tights
Cotton On cardigan
Clogs from Rubi Shoes
New hair by Lee Wallis

I will write a proper review soon but can I just say AGAIN how happy I am with my hair and especially my new hairdresser! She was so, so, so lovely. Good customer service makes me very happy. Also I am wearing almost no makeup in these pictures so apologies for looking so pale and GRIM.

Haircut!

This is hardly a huge departure in hairstyle for me, but SO STRAIGHT AND SO SHINY it had to be documented. I went to a new hairdresser (at Lee Wallis in South Perth) which I will have to write up sometime because I am so so happy with it!

Yay for hair snippin'!

I'm running late and don't need an excuse, 'cause I'm wearing my brand new shoes.

So I pretty much ended my heels vendetta and promptly bought three new pairs. I love, love, LOVE them all so much, but have not yet had the chance to wear them, as my uni break and recent unemployment means that I am basically laying on the couch like a slob 80% of the time (the other 20% is sleeping, obviously. Actually it's more of a 50-50 split). Anyway, I got these electric blue, studded boots from Myer (on sale, from $100 down to $34), and the clogs and leopard-print booties from Rubi Shoes, bought in a buy one, get one half price deal.

The clogs are actually the most comfortable out of the three, despite their precarious height, and the leopard boots are definitely the least comfortable. They don't have much support around the toe - by now I am used to a platform of some kind - and so they reeeally start to hurt the front of my foot after a while. They may be delegated to dinner-and-movie shoes before long. As for the Miss Shop ones, I have to say that ankle boots usually make me look a bit Stumpytown. BUT I have two pairs from Miss Shop that I deem suitable and while not exactly leg-lengthening, they do NOT make me feel like more of a hobbit than I already am. Points to Myer!

Miss Shop from Myer boots, worn with Jonathon Aston gold knee-high socks

Rubi wedge boots, worn with red tights from David Jones

Rubi clogs, worn with my scarily pale legs

Ah, consumerism! WHAT UNEMPLOYMENT HUH HUH.

Femme Sud

Um... my 21st birthday is coming up and I would absolutely love one of these purses from Femme Sud. SUBTLE HINT OVER.

The "Diary" purse is my absolute favourite.

THIS IS SO ADORABLE ARE YOU FOR SERIOUS. I would wear this with a Betsey Johnson dress (possibly this one that I saw on Gala Darling's latest outfit post), glittery gold knee socks, and black patent Mary Janes.

I would also not say no to the "Datebook" since I am totally, like, all up with the dates now (a lie, but with this at least I could pretend).
I do love the 'Buy' list at the bottom. I would wear this with a little black dress (what else can take you through so many dates?), black opaque stockings, a big gold cocktail ring, and leopard print wedge boots.

And what better to appease an Irish Catholic family than carrying around the Bible?
Heh heh. What would you wear this with? A nun's habit over stockings and suspenders?

I do have to say that these are purses strictly to lust after - at about $400 each, they aren't cheap. But! So pretty! I love books. And I'm not really a bag lady (ha) but I could learn to love purses. LET ME DREAM.

{this was not sponsored in any way by Femme Sud!}

An Open Letter To Men, by Christina Hendricks.

This was published a while ago on Gala Darling's blog. I had heard of the letter before that but hadn't read the whole thing. I thought it was amazing and very, very true. And also, who doesn't love Christina Hendricks? Damn.

We love your body. If we’re in love with you, we love your body. Your potbelly, everything. Even if you’re insecure about something, we love your body. You feel like you’re not this or that? We love your body. We embrace everything. Because it’s you.

Speaking of your body, you don’t understand the power of your own smell. Any woman who is currently with a man is with him partly because she loves the way he smells. And if we haven’t smelled you for a day or two and then we suddenly are within inches of you, we swoon. We get light-headed. It’s intoxicating. It’s heady.

We remember forever what you say about the bodies of other women. When you mention in passing that a certain woman is attractive — could be someone in the office, a woman on the
street, a celebrity, any woman in the world, really — your comment goes into a steel box and it stays there forever. We will file the comment under “Women He Finds Attractive.” It’s not about
whether or not we approve of the comment. It’s about learning what you think is sexy and how we might be able to convey it. It’s about keeping our man by knowing what he likes.

We also remember everything you say about our bodies, be it good or bad. Doesn’t matter if it’s a compliment. Could be just a comment. Those things you say are stored away in the steel
box, and we remember these things verbatim. We remember what you were wearing and the street corner you were standing on when you said it.

Never complain about our friends — even if we do. No matter how many times we say a friend of ours is driving us crazy, you are not to pile on. Not because it offends us. But because it adds to the weight that we carry around about her.

Remember what we like. When I first started dating my husband, I had this weird fascination with the circus and clowns and old carnival things and sideshow freaks and all that. About a month after we started dating, he bought me this amazing black-and-white photo book on the circus in the 1930s, and I started sobbing. Which freaked him out. I thought, Oh, my God, I mentioned this three or four weeks ago and talked about it briefly, but he was really listening to me. And he actually went out and researched and found this thing for me. It was amazing.

We want you to order Scotch. It’s the most impressive drink order. It’s classic. It’s sexy. Such a rich color. The glass, the smell. It’s not watered down with fruit juice. It’s Scotch. And you ordered it.

Stand up, open a door, offer a jacket. We talk about it with our friends after you do it. We say, “Can you believe he stood up when I approached the table?” It makes us feel important. And it makes you important because we talk about it.

No shorts that go below the knee. The ones almost like capri pants, the ones that hover somewhere between the kneecap and the calf? Enough with those shorts. They are the most embarrassing pants in the world. They should never be worn. No woman likes those.

Also, no tank tops. In public at least. A tank top is underwear. You’re walking around in your underwear. Too much.

No man should be on Facebook. It’s an invasion of everyone’s privacy. I really cannot stand it.

You don’t know this, but when we come back from a date, we feel awkward about that transition from our cute outfit into sexy lingerie. We don’t know how to do this gracefully. It’s embarrassing. We have to find a way to slip into another room, put on the outfit as if it all happened very easily, and then come out and it’s: Look at me! Look at the sexy thing I’ve done! For you, it’s the blink of an eye. It’s all very embarrassing. Just so you know.

Panties is a wonderful word. When did you stop saying “panties”? It’s sexy. It’s girlie. It’s naughty. Say it more.

About ogling: The men who look, they really look. It doesn’t insult us. It doesn’t faze us, really. It’s just — well, it’s a little infantile. Which is ironic, isn’t it? The men who constantly stare at our breasts are never the men we’re attracted to.

There are better words than beautiful. Radiant, for instance. It’s an underused word. It’s a very special word. “You are radiant.” Also, enchanting, smoldering, intoxicating, charming, fetching.

Marriage changes very little. The only things that will get a married man laid that won’t get a single man laid are adultery and whores. Intelligence and humor (and your smell) are what get you laid. That’s what got you laid when you were single. That’s what gets you laid when you’re married. Everything still works in marriage: especially intelligence and humor. Because the sexiest thing is to know you.

What I Wore 14.07.10

This is an easy and (for me) pretty grungy outfit, that I wore to buy some shoes from Rubi Shoes (they are having a buy one, get one half price deal at the moment - score! Except not really, because they are Rubi shoes, and will probably fall apart in the first half an hour of wearing them), post a Louise & Jane piece, and go into uni. I am trying very hard to fill my days with as much stuff as possible so unemployment doesn't drive me insane. The shop officially closed last Friday (which is why there was a distinct lack of posting, sorry, it was a weird week) and so I am on the job hunt again!

As always, excuse the mess in the background...

Dress from Modcloth
Black tights
Boots from Betts (I LOVE THEM)
Skeleton earrings from Diva
Bag on floor from Sportsgirl, secondhand via Renee

An attempt to show off my dangly skeleton earrings! One of them is unfortunately missing half a leg but I think they are out of stock and, thus, irreplaceable.

Mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even a little bit. Not even at all.

10 Things I Hate About You is one of the only nineties movies I watched (and looooved) in the actual nineties, and I was completely obsessed with Bianca's wardrobe. There may have been numerous (and, for that matter, futile) attempts to copy her outfits. The last time I watched it - which was the day before Heath Ledger died and then I freaked out thinking I had had some butterfly effect on the whole world - I was much more interested in Kat's grungy and effortless styling, but it is still good for a hit of 90's nostalgia.

I was never crazy about Kat's prom dress, to be honest. Why have a simple slip dress when you can have layers and layers of pink tulle and a weird satin T-shirt, WTF.

Squee! (P.S - My ball/"prom" dress actually was rather similar to this. COINCIDENCE? It was harder to find full outfit photos than I thought, this was the best I could find of the dress:)

It was always my dream that some boy would show up to my soccer practice (pfft, as if I was ever sporty enough to do organised sports, but irrelevant), and sing me a song. It has not happened (yet, GET A MOVE ON BRAHS).

!!!

Is body-con really a hangover from 1999? HAS THE DAY ARRIVED WHEN I HAVE ACTUALLY SEEN A TREND RE-APPEAR TWICE? *old*

I could probably say the final poem word for word WHY CAN'T MY BRAIN REMEMBER ANYTHING USEFUL. In the car the other day I found out I can also remember the lyrics to almost every Hilary Duff song recorded while I was in high school. And I can remember almost all of Ice Ice Baby. But can I remember when my phone bills or due? Or, you know, what 6x12 is? Of course not.

So, that is my guilty pleasure movie of the week. I would love to know yours! Did you have any characters you copied the outfits of incessantly? Did you love JGL as much as I did (had a biiiig picture of him circa 3rd Rock From the Sun in my room, from TV HITS magazine thankyouverymuch)?

Satisfy her with your giant.

I found this fantastic series by the very talented Elliott Burford, in which he illustrated the titles of spam emails he received. If only all spam emails were in this format! You can even buy some of them as T-shirts! Hee! Here are a few of my favourites...
