I haven't really talked about it on my blog yet, but I am a huge book nerd. Book nerd doesn't even cover how much I devour books and am always looking for something new to read. So I thought it would be interesting to see what the inside of Tom Wolfe's house looked like and I was pleasantly surprised! I was expecting a minimalist place (I hate minimalist, I LOVE STUFF) and instead it was this wonderful kitschy place!

I don't think I ever would have picked Tom Wolfe for a minimalist - he's such a maximalist with words, and multi-coloured kitsch is sort of his home turf. I like his house!

ReplyDeleteI have to be super honest here and say I haven't read Tom Wolfe. I don't go for current authors as much as the beat poets and existential philosophers. In fact, I don't even know of a book he's written - any recommendations?

ReplyDeleteskye - that is true, i always imagine that well-known authors would have really minimalist homes, and that chick-lit authors would be the ones with overstuffed apartments. i don't know why, it's obviously THE BIGGEST GENERALISATION EVER.
ReplyDeletemiss karen - i've only read one, called i am charlotte simmons, which wasn't bad. but the one i am most interested in reading - which i think you would like too - is called The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test & is about a painted bus called the Hugger in the 1960s.
a dreamer - i know! he has so many cool paintings, i wanted to put more in but then i would have had to call this entry "paintings that tom wolfe has hanging in his home".
woops - in my comment I said the bus was called the hugger, it was called "furthur". I don't know how I got those confused! Die-hard Tom Wolfe fans can feel free to stone me to death.
ReplyDeletemiss karen - totally check out his 60s journalism stuff in The Pumphouse Gang and The Kandy-Koloured Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby, and then go for the Electric Kool Aid Acid Test which is about the Merry Pranksters. Lots of beat, mod you name it stuff in all of those.

Miss Karen, I would also recommend his 'Bonfire of the Vanities' as a great read!
I haven't read Bonfire of the Vanities yet so I will be sure to check it out!
