What I Wore 31.03.09 + New Hair!

So this is what I wore to go and get my hair cut this morning - and run other various errands, including getting the latest NYLON and writing an article, but who cares! New hair!
♥ Dress: Secondhand
♥ Cardigan: Cotton On
♥ Earrings: Diva
♥ Tights: ?
♥ Shoes: Miss Shop from Myer
And this is my hair! I feel like a mod... ROCK OUT MOD STYLE!
I really like it! It'll take some getting used to (I keep looking up thinking that there's something on my forehead... which I guess there is, but I keep forgetting it's just my hair) but I'm happy with it. I got it cut at Toni&Guy, since there was a 25% off voucher in this month's Cleo. If you like it and want to go there, I had it cut by Steph and she was lovely! I had it cut at 9:15, which I recommend because there's no one else waiting and so I didn't have to have my appointment rushed or anything like that.

Tonight I'm going to dinner at my friend's house, so I have to go and make some cupcakes while I watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It is just one of those days.

What I Wore 27.03.09

Hello! Please excuse the mess behind me, I am moving soon so the house is in disarray.

♥ Dress: Dangerfield

♥ Shoes: Zu sale last year

♥ Snake ring: Diva

♥ Panther ring: Diva

This is what I wore to meet my friend for one of my last dinners at my local pub (I move away in two weeks!). We had ridiculously large and cheap cocktails. I had a Jelly Bean - I'm not sure what was in it but I assume it had sambuca - and a Fluffy Duck, which was DELICIOUS. Then I came home and watched the football while spending some much-needed time with Boy.

How was your weekend?

I'm obsessed with...

♥ My Wii Fit. I've done at least half an hour on it every day since I got it two weeks ago, which might not sound like much but, for an exercise-phobe like me, is A LOT! Anyway. It is my new boyfriend. I love it.

♥ This photo:

This outfit of Annie Spandex's. And Annie Spandex in general.

♥ This dress, which got a bashing on Go Fug Yourself but I am totally crushing on it:

♥ This song! I've always loved Emiliana Torrini but it is great to hear a song that is more upbeat and not so beautifully melancholy.

♥ The idea of owning a pair of pink patent Doc Marten boots. They are number one on my wish list right now (along with a pair of nude-coloured heels).
♥ Season 1 of Skins - and everything Cassie wears, ever. Although I probably won't be able to watch About a Boy again without feeling wrong.

♥ The latest issue of Russh.

Is there anything you're obsessed with at the moment?

p.s - more outfit posts to come soon, I promise!

I see you shiver with antici....pation

I just got off the phone, I booked a hair appointment for next Tuesday! Eee! I'm so excited I might burst! I haven't got it cut properly since I had it cut into a bob last year (it had grown out by the time I started the blog!). I've been looking at photos for inspiration and I am really thinking I might go the fringe. Yes.
Photo 1 from SuicideGirls (has been in my pictures folder forever because I love the tattoo), 2-4 from Lookbook.
I got tagged by the lovely AUS style for an award! Isn't it gorgeous?
"This award is bestowed upon a fellow blogger whose blog’s content or design is, in the giver’s opinion, brilliant.“When accepting this auspicious award, you must write a post bragging about it, including the name of the misguided soul who thinks you deserve such acclaim, and link back to the said person so everyone knows she/he is real. Choose a minimum of seven (7) blogs that you find brilliant in content or design. Or improvise by including bloggers who have no idea who you are because you don’t have seven friends. Show the seven random victims’ names and links and leave a harassing comment informing them that they were prized with Honest Weblog. Well, there’s no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon. List at least ten (10) honest things about yourself. Then pass it on."
Thank you!

Here's my 10 honest things about me:

1. Once, on Leavers (or Schoolies), I tackled my friend to the ground and accidentally scarred her elbow in the process. I still feel really guilty! Sorry Emma!
2. I really don't like chocolate. I'll eat it, but it's not ever my first choice.
3. When I'm listening to a song on my iPod, I think about where it would play in the soundtrack of my life. Not in a cheesy way, just "If I was to ever meet Tony from Skins and we'd fall in love and move to an apartment in London then this is the song I would want playing". Crazy? Be honest.
4. My favourite part of going to the hairdresser's/doctor's/whatever is reading the crappy magazines in the waiting room, in particular Take 5! and That's Life!.
5. I am really shocking at cleaning up. I am so incredibly messy that people are flabbergasted. You might remember an episode of Friends where Ross goes out with a girl who has a really disgusting apartment? Well, that's basically my place (without the rats and guinea pigs, because I have rent inspections sometimes).
6. My dream job is a criminal psychologist.
7. I used to hate Radiohead and only started listening to them because a boy I liked at the time was obsessed with them. Now they're one of my favourite bands.
8. This is my third year at uni and I still haven't embraced the uni lifestyle of going to the pub every Wednesday, spending every Friday and Saturday out drinking and never doing assignments yet still passing. I guess I am too much of a nerd.
9. My favourite way to spend a Friday night is with a stack of magazines and a pot of tea.
10. I have a pretty weak stomach and almost anything can make me vom easily. Yum.
In return, I give this award to:
and Tres Lola.

Etsy Love: Indygrrrl

I'm sure most of you already know about the wonderful Indygrrrl, but I thought that I would feature my favourite pieces from her Etsy store!

This is my absolute favourite piece that I plan to buy once I get enough money! I would wear it to one of my early morning tutorials and look down at it every time I got hungry for breakfast. Yum yum. It is deliciously cute.

I would wear the tea party necklace with some knee socks, Mary Janes and a dress reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. You know that this necklace would be perfect to wear to a picnic or perhaps to a little French cafe.

I think that the banana split necklace would be very cute to wear on a first date. I don't know why, but I think it would be good in a dinner-and-a-movie type situation.

This bracelet is twelve kinds of adorable. I would wear this on a lady date with some of my favourite lady bloggers. Maybe to a cupcake tasting or to a milkshake bar.

Fries earrings? HELLO AWESOME. Too good to wear to your local McDonald's, I would wear these to a 50's diner with a poodle skirt and a quiff in my hair. I think that these would AT LEAST get me a free play on the jukebox.

This is also one of my favourites. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was one of my favourite books as a kid, and the original movie is also high on my list! If I saw anyone wearing this I would pretty much beg them to marry me. It is awesome.

All of these plus more drool-inducing pieces can be found at Indygrrrl's Etsy store. I really hope you check it out, she seems spectacularly nice and makes pretty pieces as well, what more could you want?

What I Wore 19.03.09

This is what I wore to my friend's birthday dinner & dancing!

♥ Dress: Cotton On

♥ Jacket: Alice in the Eve

♥ Tights: Now legwear

♥ Shoes: Miss Shop from Myer

It was a fun night, we went to Outback Jack's (where if you finish 1kg of steak in half an hour, you get it half price and a free T-shirt... no one at our table was game enough to try it, but it gives you an idea of what the place was like, haha) and had disgustingly sweet Cosmopolitans, and then to The Deen for salsa dancing! It was so much fun, I'm glad that I got to spend my friend's birthday with her, she is one of my favourite people ever!

I think it would have been a good idea to break in the shoes before I wore them! They were SO INCREDIBLY PAINFUL by the end of the night, by about 10:00 I was whimpering and looking around for a chair. This morning I woke up to something not unlike this:

So, ALWAYS break in new shoes before wearing them out dancing!

x

Also, to any Perth people, I thought I would mention the HUGE Subway DC sale, happening at 824 Hay St, opposite His Majesty's Theatre. I had a look on Friday, and it had brands like Zimmerman, Cohet et Sabine, Stolen Girlfriend's Club and Kate Hurst, with nothing over $100! Sadly that was still too much for this poor arts student so go and spend up for me!

"If you type Google into Google, you can break the internet".

The ever-fantastic Vixel from Sparkle and Glitter tagged me for this quiz! I hope you don't mind a rather text-heavy post!
These are the rules:
1. respond and rework: answer the questions on your blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention, add one more question of your own.2. tag five other un-tagged people.

What is your current obsession?
Tea, my Wii Fit, new shoes, winter clothes, The IT Crowd, and Mad Men.

What are you wearing now?
My green floral op-shop dress, a long snuggly cardigan, and black tights.

Do you nap a lot?
I don't really nap, but I do get to sleep in quite late a few days a week (the upside of being an arts student and unemployed!).

Why is today special?
It's the birthday of two people I love very much - my dad and one of my best friends!

What would you like to learn to do?
Burlesque dancing, speak fluent French, be able to design and make clothes, and be an excellent chef.

What’s for dinner?
Something from Outback Jack's, where I'm going for my friend's birthday.
What was the last thing you bought?
Birthday presents!

What are you listening to right now?
The sound of my Media Studies work not being done.

What is your favorite weather?
Rainy! I love winter weather.

What is on your bedside table?
A very 60's-inspired lamp, some magazines (Cleo and Shop Til You Drop), my glasses, about three glasses half-full of water, and some change.

What’s your style?
Constantly evolving.

What is your most challenging goal right now?
Trying to get a job! Damn you financial crisis!

If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where do you want it to be?
I would love to live in Paris. Or perhaps London. Or, since the house is fully furnished and paid for, maybe I would just get it here so I would still be near everyone I love! No, I think Paris.

Name the things you cannot live without.
My friends and family, my boyfriend, my laptop, enough money to buy a magazine and a coffee, and a good pair of shoes!

What would you like to have in your hands right now?
A ticket to Russell Brand tomorrow night! I was DEVASTATED when I couldn't go!

What would you like to get rid of?
The sinking, "Ihavewaytoomuchtogetdone" feeling...

What was the last book you read?
Life, Law and Not Enough Shoes, which is an autobiography of a female lawyer in Perth. It's more interesting than I made it sound :P I would recommend it!

What languages can you speak?
English, a teeny weeny bit of French.

What language(s) do you want to be able to speak?
Fluent French and Japanese.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I always wanted to be a journalist, but for some reason lately I have been thinking of doing a teaching degree? But I haven't made up my mind yet.

What's one thing you're looking forward to?
Moving in a few weeks! :D

I tag theses always lovely bloggers: Shannon, Amanda, Monster Girl Writes, and Emily.

Tara needs your help!

For a while I've been thinking of the direction that I would like this blog to go in. When I started it I thought of it more as a fashion blog, but I guess if you're writing in something quite frequently, it's hard not to let your "real life" creep into it!
I remember Em saying that her blog was a personal journal of sorts, and I think that is kind of the thing I would eventually like to achieve. But! You are the people reading, so if you wouldn't mind providing some feedback I would be eternally grateful!

Would you like...

♥ more article-type posts (like this, or this)?

♥ less posts about "style icons"?

♥ more or less stuff about my life?

♥ interviews with bloggers & other inspiring people?

♥ more photos?

♥ more "Bits & Pieces" posts?

♥ more of my Etsy picks?

♥ reviews of brands, movies, books etc?

Please let me know in the comments, that would be awesome! Even something like "Don't change anything" or "I like this stuff" would be extremely helpful.

Thanks!

Lá Fhéile Pádraig Sona Duit!

My very favourite song from my favourite Irish band (sorry, U2).

I like to celebrate the way I celebrate every holiday...
with a pair of fabulous new shoes!
My lovely mother bought me these on the weekend, because Myer was having a 25% off accessories sale. They are sooo comfortable, which I think is due to the fact there's a platform built inside the shoe, and a LOT more flattering than other ankle boots I've tried on (which make my legs look like sausages). They will make their debut at my friend's birthday on Thursday, we are going to dinner and then salsa dancing! I can't wait!

I hope you have a fanatstic day and indluge in some Guiness... maybe? I've never tried it, which will probably get me kicked out of my family.

A continuation of the brand’s 100th anniversary celebration, the collections reference the brand’s undeniable influence on pop culture and music with decidedly modern styling, materials and detailing. What I Wore 11.03.09

Hello! Today I went into uni to meet my friend for lunch, and then to Freedom to look for couches for my new apartment. In a little over a month, I will be moving! BE EXCITED!

The weather was meant to cool down today (it was 37C yesterday) but it was still humid. After a minor freak-out about what to wear, I decided on this dress because it's comfortable, flattering and the skirt does a cool flippy thing if you twirl about (which I do).

♥ Dress - Valleygirl

♥ Shoes - Rubi (need to be replaced)

♥ Ring - Diva

I kind of feel like I'm in a bit of a style rut at the moment, probably because it's a funny, in-between-seasons time so I have no idea what to wear. Also, I am sick of everything in my closet and attempting to downsize it before I move.

Also, Boy & I went to see Watchmen on the weekend and it was INCREDIBLE! Seriously, all those reviews weren't joking when they called it the best superhero movie of all time. I would, however, recommend reading the novel first if you can. Now, I could either bore you with a review and Watchmen fandom, OR I could show you this!

Watchmen cupcakes! Hello, awesome.

Style Icons: Bloggers!

The style icon posts of mine are the ones that usually get the most hits. I was thinking of who to feature in the next one, when I thought, I have PLENTY of talented and stylish ladies on my reader who would be awesome to do a post on. So, I bring to you, some of my favourite bloggers and what I think makes their style so great.

Gala Darling from iCiNG- dressing as a cupcake should feel!

Nubby Twiglet from Nubby Twiglet- sticking to a certain colour scheme & pulling it off consistently

Lady Melbourne from Lady Melbourne - for oozing elegant glamour

Em from Lick My Cupcakes- for always looking "anime cute"

Keiko Lynn from Keiko Lynn - short skirts & structured tops & coloured tights
Jane from Sea of Shoes - amazing footwear & quirky statement pieces

Marie from Agent Lover - knee socks & vintage frocks

Obviously these aren't ALL my favourite bloggers, but they are the ones whose style has been inspiring me lately. What do you think of bloggers as "style icons"? Who's yours?
Part two coming soon!
