Hello again! If there was ever anything that could pull me out of my blogging slump, of course it would be the Oscars. Pretty ladies in pretty dresses are the dreams blog posts are made of. And even though usually I like to focus on local fashion and more affordable, attainable things... well... it's the Oscars. A little red carpet here and there never hurt anybody.

So, here are my favourite dresses from the night...

Ellie Kemper in Armani Prive

I just finished reading the first book of the Hunger Games trilogy, and this is kind of what I imagine one of the 'fire' themed costumes to look like. I think it looks pretty spectacular (and definitely puts to rest that silly 'redheads can't wear red' rule).

Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab

Of course, it's not hard for a former model to look amazing in beautiful couture gowns, but I really love this whole look. The gorgeous gown is perfectly offset by the 20s/30s inspired red lips and hairstyle, and I love the white nails too. This dress looks like it would be really heavy, though... I would be glad to be going to an event where I can sit down most of the evening.

Rose Byrne in Vivienne Westwood

I love Rose Byrne, and I love Vivienne Westwood. Although I must say that Miss Byrne looks very gloomy whenever she's photographed on the red carpet. If I were at the Oscars, wearing a Vivienne Westwood gown, I could probably manage a half-smile. Just a thought.

Berenice Bejo in Elie Saab

I guess once you've been in a 1920s silent movie, you kind of have to carry that style through to all the awards shows you go to. Well, I thought this dress looked a little vintage inspired, anyway. I love the mint green colour and the sleeves!

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji

I think you must be really relieved, if you're a nominee and you win your category, to be wearing a bangin' dress that looks fantastic on stage and will continue to look fantastic in the many, many photos that will probably be shown for years to come. I love that this dress looks like a really simple shape but has so much incredible detail in it. The jewellery looks amazing with it too.

Natalie Portman in vintage Dior

This dress made me swoon a little bit, especially once I read that it was vintage. Hey, if you can get away with wearing polka-dots to an awards ceremony and not look like you're 13 years old/a clown, then more power to you. I think this dress is my favourite of the night, mostly because of the fact that it's vintage and the aforementioned polka-dots, but also because it's impeccably accessorised.

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace (and Brad Pitt in... a probably expensive tuxedo)

Yes, it's black, yes, it has a sexy slit up the side, yes, it's accessorised with matching shoes and red lipstick... but for some reason I'm really digging it. I like all the volume and the weird-looking sharp angles. And if my thighs looked like that I would probably take every opportunity to flash them (tastefully) on occasions where millions of people were watching.

Honourable mentions: Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, Louise Roe, Giuliana Rancic
Dresses I'm not entirely sure whether I liked or not and would probably like more if they were on a different person: Sandra Bullock, Jessica Chastain, Meryl Streep, Michelle Williams, Emma Stone
Dresses I definitely did NOT like, for reasons I can't quite put my finger on because objectively, they are quite lovely things to wear: Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, George Clooney's new ladyfriend, Anna Faris, Gwyneth Paltrow

And so it's over for another year. What did you guys think?

My fav would've probably been the Giambattista Valli worn by Emma Stone. But I know you were unsure about that one :p

Oh yes! I can totally relate the first outfit to one of the 'girl on fire' outfits in The Hunger Games! The colours are gorgeous!

I personally really liked what Emma Stone was wearing. I've read a few people rave on in love about Sandra Bullocks dress, but I just didn't feel it. And I agree with your 'did not like' list.

I did like what Emma Stone wore (and I LOVE her!) but I think the reason I was unsure was because it looks so similar to something Nicole Kidman wore to the Oscars a few years back?
And Natalie I'm glad you agree with my The Hunger Games assessment! Haha.

I love that first dress, although I had no idea who Ellie Kemper is. I really like Rose Bryne's dress as well, but I think my favourite would have to be Natalie Portman.
